Paisano and Collared Lizard

In 1979 I had just started my photographic study of the Texas Roadrunner. In this photo a beautiful male Paisano heads toward the nest with a male collared lizard that he had killed. Intercepting the wary bird along its return route to the nest I lay on the ground and grabbed only one photo before he dashed in another direction.

Amazing shot. Nice balance of darks and lights.
